Many tourists do choose Elba Island because of the opportunities of playing outdoor sports in breathtaking environments.
For climbers, therefore, the island is a tempting experience to test themselves on spectacular and uncrowded roads. "Costa dei Gabbiani" with Remaiolo and Ginepro's beach near Capoliveri, or the granite cliffs of the western side...many different areas and different degrees. The roads can be sometimes short for climbers used to 30mt and more, but the magnific context pays off everything.
Elbaclimb.it, a dedicated website edited from Renato Bardi (F.A.S.I. Instructor and very passionate climber) offers a detailed explanation of the places and the conditions of roads like Fetovaia, Sant'Andrea, Capanne mount (the highest peak on Elba with its 1019 meters): beautiful sceneries in full contact with nature and where nature has to be respected at first. For example, on the rocks in some parts of the beach in Sant'Andrea, climbing is sometimes prohibited because it is a bird nesting area.
Free Climbing on Elba is a world in some ways yet to be explored. We suggest to collect always as much information as possible about the state of the roads, the quickdraws and the chains: some roads have become less popular over the years, or are particularly exposed to the sea and bad weather conditions, therefore it is important to check always the safety of your next road. #climbon
